Question:
What are the GLAC Microphone Pin Awards?
Answer:
These are award pins worn on one's lapel, recognizing levels of achievement in the speaking business and are the highest earned awards the chapter offers. There are three pin awards: Bronze, Silver and Gold, and at each level the requirements are more demanding. Each has it’s own set of requirements covering achievements and accomplishments as well as contributions to the chapter.
Question:
Why does the chapter award these pins?
Answer:
Because party hats proved to be less durable and no one ever wore the Award Pants after the induction ceremonies. Well, okay, the chapter wanted a way to celebrate members in a way that encouraged their professional growth and recognized the value of their contributions to the chapter itself. The requirements have been adjusted over the years, and currently all record keeping is consistent with those required by the National Speakers Association’s requirements for the Certified Speaking Professional (CSP) designation. The CSP designation is the highest earned award/recognition at the national level.
Question:
When are the Microphone Pin Awards presented?
Answer:
The Bronze and Silver award pins may be awarded at any time the member fulfills the requirements, generally at the next chapter meeting following completion. However, the Gold Pin Award is awarded annually at the June meeting and must be approved by the NSA/GLAC Board of Directors.
Question:
What will the Pin Awards get me?
Answer:
The Pin itself, nothing. The work you do and the achievement you enjoy in order to earn the award, everything. All requirements for the pins are based on achievements common to all successful professional speakers.
Question:
Is anyone eligible?
Answer:
The awards are available to any chapter member. Chapter associates are invited to work toward their Bronze pins, but you must be a member at the time of the actual award.
Question:
What are the requirements?
Answer:
Each pin award has its own requirements, which increase in difficulty at each level. To see the specific requirements for each level, see the application PDF’s for the Bronze,
Silver and
Gold pins.
Question:
Will my past accomplishments apply to the awards?
Answer:
Some of them will. Things like having written a book or produced a professional level audio or video program will apply. Other things like creating a professional brochure or one-sheet are on-going events anyway. But some of the speech delivery requirements are time sensitive and as such must have been delivered with so many months of earning that award.
Question:
What does it take to get started?
Answer: Your Bronze Pin Award comes first; then the Silver and finally the Gold. Click on the appropriate pin to read the list of requirements.
